Circa 1300 Choirbook Illumination

€2500.00

Fragment of an Italian choir book leaf with illuminated letter T.

Possibly by the Master of Sant'Agnese, active at the end of the 13th century/early 14th century in Rome, this is a fragment of a 'cantorale', a large format choir book.

With a bit of effort one can make out '[alle]leluia alle[luia] / [Exsultate ju]sti in domine r[ectos decet collaudatio] / Gloria / Al[leluia]', possibly the introitus of 'Misericordia Domini’, which was sung the second sunday after easter.

Much thanks to Pieter Mannaerts of the Alamire Foundation for sharing their expertise on the subject.
