Alfons Franck, ‘a pair of cats’, wooden sculpture, 1950-1970, 32 x 16 x 14 cm

Alfons Franck born in Sint-Pauwels, Belgium in 1933. He was schooled as a carpenter but became an engine mechanic during his military service. He started sculpting in wood as a means of relaxation. According to his son he would work sometimes months on a sculpture. Often signed his work very boldly. Alfons Franck sculpted from his workshop in Waterland-Oudeman until his death in 2011.

I recently stumbled upon the sculptures of Alfons Franck by meeting his son, who lives in the same town I grew up in and was cleaning his parental house. More to follow.
