Alfons Franck, ‘De Zaaier’, wooden sculpture, 1950-1970, 37 x 15 x 12 cm

Alfons Franck born in Sint-Pauwels, Belgium in 1933. He was schooled as a carpenter but became an engine mechanic during his military service. He started sculpting in wood as a means of relaxation. According to his son he would work sometimes months on a sculpture. Often signed his work very boldly. Alfons Franck sculpted from his workshop in Waterland-Oudeman until his death in 2011.

This sculpture has a price sticker in the artist's handwriting for 12.000 Belgian Francs. (not an insignificant amount in those days)
