Ex-Voto Painting 1824

In Christian tradition, ex-votos were offered to a saint for grace received after a specific disease or troubling situation, or when in need of divine intervention. These votive paintings would have then been hung on a chapel or church wall. 

This painting features a person in bed with sickness, the Man of Sorrows up above.
