Ex-Voto Painting 1838

A rare ex-voto painting depicting an accident that happened during the peeling of potatoes.

In Christian tradition, ex-votos were offered to a saint for grace received after a specific disease or troubling situation, or when in need of divine intervention. These votive paintings would have then been hung on a chapel or church wall.
