€450.00

Spirit sculpture by Gabriel Bien-Aimé.

Gabriel Bien-Aimé, born 1951 in Croix-des-Bouquets, is a Haitian sculptor. Like his mentor Janvier Louis-Juste, Bien-Aimé conceives his imagery through cut and hammered iron, the revered art form named Koupe Fè (Creole, from the French fer coupée) and first practised by the late master Georges Liautaud.

His subjects are often related to the Vodou religion. In this case it is a depiction of an intermediary spirit named Lwa.
According to Vodou belief, the Lwa communicate with humans through dreams and divination, and in turn are given offerings.

Gabriel Bien-Aimé's works are in the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou, the Musée du Quai Branly and the Musée National d’Art Moderne de Paris and others.
