German Wedding Box

€385.00

A typical German traditional folk art object, this early 19th century bridal box was used to house all kinds of objects like hats and ribbons. Usually gifted as a wedding present or dowry, these were made of bent wood.

This example features a couple in fancy dress in a landscape, surrounded by the following cautionary expression:
'Ich wolte gerne Rosen brechen wenn mich nicht die Dornen stechen'
'I would like to break roses with you, if the thorns don't prick me'

45,5 x 28 x 18

Bottom of the bentwood box is hold in place with paper tape.
