Iron Ornaments From Antwerp Central Station

€80.00

A pair of wrought iron ornaments, once part of the iconic steel roof of the Antwerp central station.

The steel platform roof of the station was constructed between 1895 and 1899 following the plans of engineer Clément Van Bogaert, by the Compagnie Centrale de Construction. At a certain point in time renovation works were necessary and many ornaments were removed, suiting the changed taste.

The ornament features Mercurius' wings, part of the Belgian railroad logo. (A train-wheel with two wings)

Ten pieces available, each slightly different in form and colour. Price per piece.
