The 'zageman' is a balancing object in the form of a lumberjack that was used in cafés in our area of the world to notify the customers the café was closing or to tell a customer they were 'aan het zagen' - complaining. The zageman, which was balancing on the bar, would be set in motion and when it stopped moving back and forth the bar would close or the customer would stop their story.
